Academic books in the context of scientific evaluation

Along with scientific articles, academic books are vehicles for transmitting scientific knowledge, but fewer tools are available for their evaluation.

Often researchers do not know either the criteria used in the assessment of scientific monographs or the tools existing for that purpose, and therefore the USAL Bibliometrics and Scientific Information Observatory (Observatorio de Bibliometría e Información Científica(OBIC) has organized a course entitled “Academic books in the context of scientific evaluation,” where participants will learn about aspects as fundamental for researchers as who evaluates scientific books in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities and how they are assessed; what the main indicators are for the evaluation of scientific books and the tool Scholarly Publishers Indicators (SPI) will be described.

The course is free and will be held on May 18 at the Center for Brazilian Studies at the University of Salamanca from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be given by Elea Giménez from the research group of the CSIC, ILIA  (Research into Academic Books)
