Food and Technology Workshops

The First Food Workshops, organized by the Biotechnology Association of Salamanca, in collaboration with the Biology Faculty of Salamanca, will take place on the 21st and 22nd of April in the Lecture Hall in the Discórides Building.

This is a new scientific learning event with the objective of supplying information about a series of issues related to general nutrition and with the biotechnology of food in particular, without forgetting the challenges, both present and future, posed by this potent industry.

The demographic crisis, new food sources, biotechnological innovations, globalization or transgenic foodstuffs will be some of the issues addressed by important scientists during the conference.

We expect the presence of Francisco Barro, the developer of the new wheat without gluten in Spain; Antonio Granell Richart, author of a paper which has recently made the cover of Science, where he reveals why tomatoes have no taste, and José Pío Beltrán, researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Plant Biology of Valencia and president of the European Plant Science Organization (EPSO). Additionally, we will also have the pleasure of receiving guest speakers such as Gloria Fernández-Lorente, from the Food Microbiology and Biotechnology Department at the Research Institute of Nutritional Sciences (CIAL), Francisco Javier Moreno (CIAL, Department of Regulation of the Allergenicity of Transgenic Foods), Celestino Santos, professor at the Pharmacy Faculty of USAL, and Jorge Jordana Butticaz de Pozas, President of the Technological Platform Food for Life and creator and member of the Advisory Board of the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA).
