American computer programmer Richard Stallman is the founder of the free software movement.
The Faculty of Sciences hosted the speech delivered by Richard Stallman, one of the founding fathers of computing, mainly for being one of the developers of GNU/LINUX, a free operating system. He also founded the Free Software Foundation, an organization that promotes the use of free software.
Richard Stallman is also known as a software freedom activist since the 90s. As well as the founder of the Free Software Foundation, he is also the developer of GNUPedia (forerunner to Wikipedia). He currently devotes a large part of his time to promoting this movement through talks, colloquiums and workshops throughout the world.
