HackForGood Salamanca 2017

The I+D+i Building of the University of Salamanca hosted last week the 5th edition of “HackForGood”, a meeting of programmers with the aim of developing proposals to help solve social problems.

HackForGood is an event promoted by Telefónica and organized together with the Telecommunications ETSI of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the Fundación HazloPosible and the start-up MashmeTV with the support of the  Red de Cátedras Telefónica, in which hundreds of hackers for good propose challenges and solutions for building a better world.

It is a hackathon focused on social innovation, in which new ideas, services, or applications will be developed to help to solve social problems by satisfying existing needs, creating new communities, and developing collaboration among public and private institutions and the third sector: in short, everything that can contribute to create a better world using technology together with cooperative and interdisciplinary work. Participating in this edition were 15 universities from different cities in Spain. The University of Salamanca participated through MEDIALAB USAL.

HackForGood functions through social challenges proposed by others and that the participants will try to solve through technology. Participation can be individual or in a group, developing an application or service that converts into reality the proposal you like best of all the ones offered in the challenge. It is a fun, intelligent, practical and cooperative way to help build a better world.
