Morucha livestock now has a DNA Bank

The project aims to increase the importance of the breed in the sector by increasing the number of buyers and the economic value of the animals.

The collaboration between the University of Salamanca and the Provincial Council to carry out research projects that help to improve the primary sector is continuing its development with very good outcomes. On this occasion, a database of genomic DNA of Morucha breed cattle has been launched in order to avoid chromosomal alterations and to carry out studies for the genomic selection of the Morucha breed.

This project, led by USAL’s Department of Medicine (Departamento de Medicina de la USALin collaboration with the National Association of Breeders of Morucha Cattle (Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Ganado Vacuno de Raza Morucha), aims to increase the prominence of the breed in the sector by increasing the number of buyers and the economic value of animals.
