Multinational website MEGA settles into the Science Park

MEGA Spain is the most recent addition to the company’s offices in New Zealand, Portugal, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Servia, Belarus, China and Paraguay.

New Zealand-based Company MEGA, specialised in cloud storage and file hosting services with client-side file encryption, has selected the Science Park of the University of Salamanca to open its first office in Spain.

I had the opportunity to meet with MEGA chairman Stephen Hall who recently visited the company’s newest office. During our meeting, many references were made to future knowledge transfer opportunities between MEGA and the University of Salamanca. The synergy among the companies in the Science Park, the potential of Salamanca as a centre of technology, and the future plans for the company, which is currently the third largest cloud storage service in the world, are key factors to induce similar companies to choose our facilities.

A total of 11 individuals from the University of Salamanca will join MEGA Spain in this venture. They will be in charge of participating in the services offered by the company, such as creating and implementing web clients, synchronization clients (MEGAsync) for Windows, Mac and Linus, providing user support, and creating mobile applications for Android, iOS and Windows Phone, and a SDK for third-part applications.

MEGA is currently one of the most popular cloud services for the free and secure exchange of all types of files among its users.
