A group from the University of Salamanca is studying the possibility of using metallic residues from mine debris in the ceramic industry.
The Recognized Research Group (GIR) Characterization of Geomaterials (Charrock) from the University of Salamanca is dedicated to the study of rocks from various points of view, work that can be very useful for the construction industry and in particular for heritage restoration.
In one sample, members from the group analyzed the chemical composition, the physical and mechanical behavior, and the minerals that contain natural radioactivity, among other aspects. This provides them with a very clear idea of the behavior of a rock. With this information “professionals in the field of architecture, construction and restoration can use one material or another according to its quality”, explains Dolores Pereira, head of the research group.
