The University of Salamanca creates the first scientific and informative website about Lake Sanabria

On World Environment Day, USAL experts say that the lake is “in good health” but it is essential to measure and monitor threats to make its use compatible with conservation.

World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5 all over the globe, has as its motto this year to connect people with nature, to make us reflect on how we are an important part of it and how much we depend on it, and thus intelligently address the most threatening factors such as pollution, climate change and overexploitation of resources.

This motto that seems made to measure for the first scientific and informative website developed concerning the Lake of Sanabria, which has been set up by researchers of the University of Salamanca, Miguel Lizana and Javier Morales, in the frame of a project of the Hydrographic Confederation of the Duero River on the intensive analysis of Lake Sanabria. These two researchers are also involved in this project and are responsible for its dissemination, according to the scientists who informed the University of Salamanca Communications Office.

It is precisely the fundamental mission of the Sanabria Lake Learning Centre (Aula de Estudio del Lago de Sanabria – AELS) to become an educational space for disseminating knowledge about this ecosystem, to connect not only the scientific community but society as a whole to this unique natural area in Spain.
