The University of Salamanca, pioneer in the study of immediate load on dental implants

‘Advances in Oral Health’, a research group at the Dental Clinic led by Javier Montero, is applying a cutting-edge technique to shorten the time the process takes, thus benefitting patients’ quality of life.

The study has just begun in the Dental Clinic of the University of Salamanca and arises from the demand of both the scientific community and patients, who are anxious to expedite the process. It is based on scientific evidence that shows that conventional prostheses in edentulous individuals “are not enough to provide adequate chewing function,” Javier Montero told Comunicación Universidad de Salamanca.

In a pioneering way, the scientists have started a clinical trial on a group of 40 toothless patients with prosthesis to which the current protocol will be applied in a segmented way – with a waiting period of 2 to 3 months for the placement of the dental pieces from the first implant surgery – and the USAL experimental method – with immediate loading of the implant to contribute at once to retaining the prosthesis. The objective: to compare the results from the clinical, functional and subjective point of view to analyze the effectiveness of the protocol promoted by the University.
