USAL and SIPPE promote the development of enterprising and socially committed ideas

The Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer has presented the programme for the Third Social and Cultural Entrepreneurship Week, which includes several workshops and new editions of ‘PechaKucha Night’ and ‘HackForGood’.

The Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer of the University of Salamanca, Juan Manuel Corchado, accompanied by the Regional Deputy Minister for Employment and Social Dialogue of Castile & Leon, Mariano Gredilla, and the Director of  SIPPE, Mili Pizarro, presented the activities planned for the Third Social and Cultural Entrepreneurship Week. The event, organized through USAL Emprende of the Office for Professional Placement, Internships and Employment (SIPPE), and co-financed by phase 2 of TCUE Plan 2015-2017 of ERDF, will be held 6-10 March.

This initiative, with the collaboration of Medialab of USAL’s Digital Innovation and Production Service, the Green Office and the Chair of Entrepreneurs (CEUSAL) is meant to showcase and foster Social and Cultural Entrepreneurship both in the university community and in society at large.

This concept, still quite new, refers to a type of entrepreneurship based on a social economy in which a positive impact is sought for a common problem through creativity and innovation in enterprise creation. It is a search for new ways that can bring together economic sustainability and a commitment to talent with a clear service objective in which corporations concern themselves not only with economic growth but also with social  and cultural growth while sustaining the environment. Even though it is a relatively new approach it is already a reality, as can be seen in the data offered by the Vice-Chancellor at the press conference: of the 53 companies created in the University of  Salamanca, 8 have used this approach.
